Movie Verdict

Even in modern times, suspense and detective films never become stale, but the plot must be original. Joseph is a remake of Joju George’s blockbuster Malayalam film Shekar (2018). I don’t believe the creators have stated anywhere that this is a remake, but those familiar with Joseph will recognize it. The plot and character design were brilliant and original in 2018, but the plot is not as original in 2022, and the film may have been marred by an abundance of routine investigative scenes.
The film begins well, with a proper introduction of the protagonist, as the director wasted no time getting into the hero’s world; however, the subsequent plot events make the audience question whether or not this is a thriller. The film contains a few plot twists and turns, but they do not fit the story well.
The portrayal of Sheakar by Rajashekar is adequate, as it is evident that he has aged. Even though the character is a retired, elderly police officer, he still requires energy to investigate and appears physically frail while doing so. Shivani Rajashekar, Rajahsekar’s daughter, portrays the same character in the film, and she and the rest of the cast perform admirably in their respective roles.
Jeevitha Rajashekar is not a novice filmmaker, but the manner in which films are produced today has changed drastically, and she must improve because she failed to completely captivate the audience. Mallikarjun Naragani’s cinematography isn’t up to par, and Anup Rubens’ music isn’t suited for thriller films. However, he tried hard but fell short, and the rest of the technical departments did an excellent job.
Shekar is not for everyone, but those who enjoy thrillers may enjoy it.
